About us

We transform hospitals and other healthcare institutions into inspiring, welcoming spaces through art.

The Healing Power of Art

The Art for Healing Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring the healing power of art to hospitals and other wellness facilities. We collect and install artwork that transforms these places into inspiring environments that encourage a sense of hope and serenity for patients, their families and healthcare providers.

Since 2002, we have installed more than 14,500 works in more than a hundred institutions across Canada, including Nunavik in the North. Our vision has also crossed the Atlantic, giving us the chance to carry out projects in France and England.

Approach

We believe in art’s healing power.

Since the Foundation’s inception, the reactions and testimonials we’ve received have been astonishing. Each project shows us how art deeply and holistically nurtures the healing process.

Art is our one true global language. It knows no nation, it favors no race, and it acknowledges no class. It speaks to our need to reveal, heal, and transform. It transcends our ordinary lives and lets us imagine what is possible.
Richard Kamler, Artist

Against the backdrop of an institutional approach to healthcare, art makes spaces more welcoming by inspiring connections, hope, sharing, beauty and serenity.

Expertise

The last twenty years have allowed us to develop unique know-how that goes beyond art donations.

As dedicated curators, we’re actively involved in searching for, transporting, selecting and installing artwork, always with a collaborative spirit.

Awards

The Art for Healing Foundation’s impact is reflected in the community’s reactions, both inside and outside the walls of healthcare institutions. In recent years, we have received several awards and recognition, including in May, 2024 the Governor General of Canada, Meritorious Service Decorations (Civil Division) presented at Rideau Hall by Her Excellency the Honorable Mary Simon.

Being honoured for what you love to do is gratifying. Being recognized for the work that grows out of that love is truly rewarding. The foundation changed our lives in a myriad of ways. Over the last twenty-two years, we have met so many inspirational people. We were enriched by their stories about why they wanted to donate to the foundation and by the volunteers who shared what it meant for them to give their time and skills. We came to understand better the important work our healthcare system performs 24/7.
Earl Pinchuk
We all struggle for meaning in life; nothing provides more meaning than giving. Earl and I have a shared passion for the visual arts and can attest to their profound impact on lives. The Art for Healing Foundation has shown us the power of art to heal.  We’ve been exposed to more art, experienced generosity, travelled broadly, and been made aware through countless stories of how the art we have installed in the many institutions has impacted the lives of patients and their families, workers, administrators, and donors. Establishing The Art for Healing Foundation has been phenomenally rewarding for both of us. We share these honours with all the artists and supporters who fed the seed we planted over two decades ago with love, hope and inspiration.
